Your wedding day should be one of the most wonderful days of your life; one that is cherished and remembered for years to come. However, the planning and preparation that goes into the day can be quite overwhelming and often is a source of stress for couples leading up to the big day. Ninety six percent of recently married couples admit that the wedding planning is stressful. Getting the seating right, choosing the right venue and trying to keep the wedding cost friendly are just a few examples of tasks to get done throughout the process and there is much more on that list. As a result, most couples find themselves stressed about their wedding rather than enjoying the beauty and meaning behind it. However, it doesn't have to become this way. By being proactive and employing a few of these simple tricks, you can minimize any wedding tension and focus on the true meaning behind this momentous occasion.
Don’t Make It A Daily Topic It may sound contradictory but try not to make your wedding or its planning the main focus in your life. Being embedded in planning an event for months can quickly become overwhelming. It is important to take time out and refresh your mind. One way to do that is to have a detox; more specifically a wedding detox. Take time away even a night off to focus on other aspects of your life and you can return refreshed and ready to tackle it all. It is important to set boundaries and they start with having a dedicated place for wedding planning. Whether it is a specific drawer or a home corner allocated to planning events, make it your wedding planning space. Allocate a set time for planning and be firm on your time away from that space. Take a break from planning and have a date night with your partner; being careful to not mention the wedding. It is vital that you remember the reason for the event. After all, your wedding is a celebration of something much bigger. Get Organized One of the top reasons for wedding stress: disorganization and confusion. With so many moving parts in planning a wedding,it can difficult to keep track of it all. However, by employing organization tactics and tools such as lists, budgeting apps and planners you can stay up to date and also become quite time efficient in the process. The practice of organization has often been linked stress reduction and productivity in the home and the workplace. With all the bits of wedding information to process and decisions to make, your mind can quickly become overwhelmed and distracted. To avoid information overload and gain mental clarity, utilize tools such as a wedding planner and lists to prioritize tasks by deadline dates. Planning apps and sites such as Wedding Wire and OneWed make the search for vendors simple while sharing tools such as Dropbox and Pinterest can help you not only envision but share that vision easily with your wedding planner (or fiance). Make Use of Additional Help-Delegate Often, you can find yourself trying juggle multiple wedding tasks all at once or perhaps having a short time to pull it all together. The result? You find yourself under pressure and spread too thin; the perfect recipe for stress. If you do find your to do list piling up, try delegating tasks. Family members and friends are often more than happy to assist in whatever way you may need. It can be simple tasks such as checking out flower vendors or just returning phone calls for quotations. Having their help frees up your time and reduces the stress you may feel. A bonus: it costs nothing. Self Care Is Important Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Self care is important in any situation and particularly when feeling stressed (or trying to avoid stress). The American Stress Institute recommends physical exercise along with the use of meditation techniques as ways to relieve stress. It is a great tool to relieve any built up tension and has tremendous benefits for your mental and emotional health. Another idea is to have a pamper session such as a massage or calm bath. That dedicated hour of self care can be just what is needed to decompress and renew your outlook. When it all starts to feel a bit overwhelming, take a few moments to put things into perspective. Take a break and remember the reason that you are doing this. Focus on the meaning of the day and lastly, don’t forget to enjoy the beauty of the day. By Chrissy Jones
