Much is made of June brides. But the autumn months of September and October were actually the most popular months for wedding dates in 2017. And while there is plenty of advice on how to choose the right wedding dress, couples getting married outdoors during the fall months must consider their comfort, and their guests, too. That "something blue" isn’t meant to be your lips
While some brides dream of light and lacy wedding dresses, an autumn wedding could leave them feeling chilled to the bone, with lips blue and teeth chattering. That’s not to say long sleeves and furs are necessary; however, it’s important to have a backup plan in place if the region should get hit with a cold snap. Consider adding a pretty wrap, shawl, shrug or bolero jacket to the bridal attire. Providing each of the bridesmaids with a color-coordinated matching one to go with the bride’s can tie the girls’ looks together and ensure the bridesmaids are warm enough, too. Keep your guests comfortable, too Ensure guests are relaxed and focused on the ceremony that’s been so carefully planned by making sure people are feeling warm enough. While autumn daytime temperatures in the Triangle can hit 60 degrees or so, at night, temps can fall into the 40s. Especially for evening weddings, where the temperatures will drop once the sun goes down, stand-alone patio heaters can also give off a soft and romantic light and a generous amount of controlled heat. Organizing outdoor heating is an important element which is easy to forget. You can find guides online looking at different heating methods from portable heaters to those you can mount on external walls. This will keep guests reveling in the moment instead of planning a quick exit for warmer places. Some reception venues may have outdoor fire pits or wall-mounted fireplaces that can be turned on for autumn weddings and special events. Put a seasonal twist on refreshments Fall weddings provide extra opportunities to be creative in wedding planning and providing friends and family with those special touches that express the bride and groom’s personal style. While serving guests custom cocktails is quite popular, seasonal beverages may be more appropriate and welcomed by those attending an autumn wedding. Consider specialty tea blends, mulled ciders or hot toddies for everyone to enjoy. Serve them in monogrammed teacups or mugs for sweet and sentimental wedding favors. Ensuring everyone’s comfort during a fall outdoor wedding adds an extra layer of planning for the bride and groom. No one wants the most memorable thing about a wedding to be how everyone froze! By carefully planning for the possibility of colder temperatures and mitigating that with appropriate bridal attire, outdoor heating solutions, and warm beverages to be served, the happy couple and their guests can fully enjoy the beautiful ceremony and reception.
